The surplus food was the bait for many to stay back in school, and he had an opportunity to showcase an appetite with the beans served that afternoon. He would take his fill, do some exercise to aid rapid digestion and return to the spoil. Then he had a stomach upset which almost cost him his life. He could only keep muttering how close a shave he had with death, when he recovered.
