The grey haired man painstakingly worked on large cuts from the rock, reducing them to pieces with a hammer. It was a grueling chore for a man his age but his tenacity was infectious and I got used to casting a glance in that direction till my last day of taking that route. The pieces of rock and other workmen were there but the old man was nowhere to be found. On the day that mattered most, he was missing in action.
