His new life in Christ made continuing with the business deal a big burden, and he opted out. He had soiled his hands and knew he deserved imprisonment as he faced trial. Then he made a vow promising God what he would do if only he could be freed. On what turned out to be his last day on the bench, the trial judge singled him out of all those whose cases came up, and discharged and acquitted him. He promptly redeemed the vow, and continues to marvel at the ways of a merciful, covenant keeping God.
