As the community of the bored found a place to be, the gaiety lent an air of normalcy to clearly abnormal times. It was the place to be for the trendy. Fashionistas had found a place to show what their wardrobes kept as closely guided secrets in months of lockdown. But he donned a facemask, knowing that the consequences were dire enough to warn the wise. He was alone. As the convivial air, the hugs and handshakes built up, he pocketed his facemask, and opted to belong.

No matter the attractions of the crowd, consequences are faced alone
