SON SHINE 554: RESPITE

It was beginning to look – as he voiced out at some point – that unseen forces were indeed dictating the course of events. He had waited for that elusive connection to the woman she needed as wife but nothing appeared to be happening until… There was relief in the air and as he announced the emergence of a prospect, it was clear that when God’s time comes no power of darkness or human limitation stands on the way.

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” – Isaiah 43: 19 (KJV)

SON SHINE 553: LIVING

He could not stop glancing at intervals watching her sing and dance during the Praise and Worship session of this last Sunday service for the year. It was all so unbelievable that this was the same person who walked the valley of the shadow of death just months earlier. Here she was enjoying music acknowledging the Almightiness of the only one who can stop death in its tracks.

“Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them.” – Psalm 126:2 (KJV)

SON SHINE 552: VIGOROUS

It was the ultimate unleashing of energy as the invigorated congregation danced with the choir at this watch night service. It started with the usually restrained choristers apparently determined to come clean on their true selves engaging in free style amidst rapturous shouts of Halleluiah. As one popular gospel tune replaced another, a young man simply started gyrating sitting right on the floor. Even the pastor pranced round the altar in celebration before the God of all flesh.

Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.” – Ps 150:4-6 (KJV)

SON SHINE 551: RELIEVED

He yielded with a lot of difficulty to the call to fast from New Year eve to the New Year. It was the longest he has had to fast till then and even as he battled with a new understanding of the word “longsuffering” he started boiling water by 11.45pm to prepare a meal. By the time others were praying earnestly and praising God into the New Year, he attacked the plate of food at the dot of midnight in relief. He had after all successfully kept his part of the bargain in the declared fast and wouldn’t quite recollect if he even said a word of prayer.

The Lord is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.” – Psalm 118:14 (KJV)

SON SHINE 550: POSSIBLE

The many troubles of the car ended with a decision to sell after regular trips to an auto mechanic who despite his expertise could not stop the drain on scarce resources. Then a move started to raise funds which stalled but she continued to pray for a new car by December 25.  Before the date a helper emerged and the suspended dream became reality.

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.” – 1 John 5:14 (KJV)

SON SHINE 549: X-RAY

As the family devotion on a different subject progressed she interjected requesting participants to score themselves on the Fruit of the Spirit they have. Each person rated themselves high with someone claiming to be up there on eight of the nine. Another scored herself less than 50 percent on all gifts. By the time the last participant started with a focus on “Love” which is the first, he frankly admitted after an analysis that he was incapable of claiming a pass on that gift not to talk of others.

“And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.” – Luke 18:13 (KJV)

SON SHINE 548: UNTOUCHED

Moments earlier its mother and others returning from a church retreat were rushed to the health facility after an accident in a vehicle which somersaulted. The badly injured was receiving attention and a man in blood-stained suit sat teary-eyed on the bare floor while another woman kept exclaiming trying to shake-off thoughts of how her earthly race could have ended just like that. But this one-year old looked on absolutely normal, observing sympathisers and wondering what it was all about.

SON SHINE 547: IMPRESSION

The voice on the other end struggled to mask the turmoil within but not for long. It was that of someone emotionally tormented who had concluded she was too tall based on perception of what others thought. Ironically this was a girl with physical features others wished they have. It took a while but she would later begin to embrace the fact that she was too blessed by the Almighty to return the favour with ingratitude or listen to the voice of the enemy.

”Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” – Philippians 4: 8 (KJV)

He took his position on the queue at this fairly exclusive restaurant but exclaimed when given the bill following his order at the counter. He wanted to partake in the pleasures of a good meal and eventually did despite the obvious limitations of income.

“He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and he hath set the world upon them.” – 1 Samuel 2: 8 (KJV)

SON SHINE 545: PAST

The bond between the families developed from a workplace co-incidence followed by moments of unbelievable sharing. Then work separated them with contact gradually becoming rare. While one of the parties didn’t appear to recognize the unfolding dynamics, their effort to reach out to their old friends was never quite reciprocated. A relationship which blossomed years ago has since become sweet memories.
