He laboured, doing all he could. As an insider, he knew the hurdles to avoid along theway, but had issues which could not be overcome, and opted to explore not so green pastures. The machinery somehow kept running after he left, with others takingalternate routes to the market he worked to build. 

“Their harvests will not be eaten by their enemies; their children will not be born to be cannon fodder. For they are the children of those the Lord has blessed; and their children, too, shall be blessed.” Isaiah 65:23 (The Living Bible)     

You do not control how the reward will come
