The scars were in the missing roofs and destroyed structures on this inter-city route. The newness in the air would have passed for some sort of construction boom arising from newfound prosperity, but these were bridges over troubled waters. Months earlier, the town was in turmoil with the wise heading for the forests around for refuge. It was a phase the inhabitants were not in a hurry to forget.
