The clamour of passengers following the sudden deceleration of the vehicle did not sway the driver who wondered if they had not noticed that no vehicle was coming from the opposite direction. But as a racing vehicle from that direction signalled trouble from a robbery gang, they made a quick U-turn only to discover that security personnel at the major checkpoint, learning that menacing robbers were approaching, bolted, leaving other vehicles and their occupants empty in minutes. It was when the robbers left with loot after ransacking the haphazardly abandoned vehicles that both drivers and the driven returned to pick the pieces.
