The arrival hall brimmed with clusters of weary travellers, as immigration officials screened – a passenger at a time, softly and firmly asking suspects to step aside for further scrutiny. Beyond the barrier, freedom beckoned. But at that point, it wasn’t about how long you have been in the air, or how close you were to destination: an unsmiling eagle-eyed official determined who got home.
