My seat was next to the aircraft?s emergency exit and the hostess came over to explain procedures, including the expectation that I should assist other passengers escape to safety should the need arise. Although the man next to me appeared better equipped physically to take on that role, I kept wondering how I was assigned that seat number in the first place!
