As the band of youths and the lone masquerade covered with palm frond mounted a barricade at our approach, the police van got there first and kept them busy enough not to continue to harass those desiring a passage. It was enough time for us to cross the lowered barrier, leaving the group still discussing with the occupants of the van as we accelerated out of sight, relieved.
