The protocols signposted business unusual. The pandemic had triggered redesigns meant to be enforced, and the announcements totally aligned. But the markings were observed more in their breach, and the wearing of face masks depended on the wearer. There was only commercial, not social distance – within the cabin. Just months later, some staunch believers appeared to have become weary of a war with no clear end.
