Although he had an attractive title and applied himself to get results for the company, frustration was building up. There was no indication that the boss was about to change the pattern of reward, despite the gains. But shortly after he resigned and relocated, the company had a major breakthrough and the reward system changed. The former subordinate who took over his position got more than the dream package my friend anticipated for years; while for him, it was the beginning of another phase of struggle.
